Extreme Environment Challenge

edmonton to calgary (approx 250 km)

The course is designed to challenge each competitor and each team to their limits. Combined with the ruthless weather teams will navigate through some of the toughest prairie terrain. The course includes river valleys, open frozen lake, cutting bush, hills, waist deep snow, wind swept prairie and grueling muscle wrenching grades. eXtreme Environment Challenge plays on the mind, hours of long monotonous physical exhaustion interrupted by the excitement of challenge and competition. The body wants to stop, it wants a rest, the mind takes control pushing competitors past physical limits. The team puts together the dynamics of four individuals coming together as one unit, one team, to achieve a unified goal, to compete, to finish. Individuality is replaced by team dynamics making the unit stronger, better equipped to overcome the course, the environment, the challenge.

Designed to challenge every team the outline of the course including all check points, designated paths, safety issues, call points and markers will be made available to team managers five hours prior to team departure time. Each team will be issued two course kits, these kits consist of the following:

1 Compass

1 Map

1 Set of Binoculars

1 Walk Meter

At designated areas check points will be established, each team must check in at each check point by signing the check point register, each check point must be approached in order of check point number 1,2,3 etc.

Designated area of the course will require the use of special equipment and use of that equipment is mandatory on that portion of the course, minimum requirements:

30 miles - Snow Shoeing

25 miles - Ice Skating

40 miles - Cross Country Skiing

50+ miles - Hiking

Course obstacles may include ice, bush, prairie, water, traffic, sand, gravel, hills, deep snow, frozen earth, climbing.

Rest periods are designated for specific check points and are mandatory.
