Team Training |
|||||||||||||||||
Team training should encompass more than on-water
training. To facilitate the best team spirit and effort,
dry-land training should also be utilized. Dry land training allows team members to become familiar with the seating arrangement, paddle stroke and timing. A lot of fun can be had with dry-land training. Many times minor flaws can be caught on the water and then practised on dry land. This frees up the on-water time. The Steersperson, drummer and captain should be watching at all times looking for areas that need extra work. All work and no play makes this more of an effort than a fun event. Take time out for team BBQ's, coffee times, etc. One important aspect of any team event is the team cheer and chant. Practice these often. When dry land training, special attention should be given to the shoulder and lower back. The stroke used in Dragon Boating is not the same as ordinary canoeing, and utilizes these areas. Light weight and cardio training are optimal. Remember this is a team sport and you need to work together. Have fun. Paddles UP!! |
