Now, do you have three friends, family members, or co-workers who also know Winnipeg and can find their way around by transit bus? If you do, then you are ready for The Great Chase.
This is your chance to get involved in Winnipeg 's newest contest, a test of your team skills and your knowledge of our city. If you think you have what it takes to take on other corporate and community teams in a transit race around the city, now is your chance to join in. The Great Chase will take place on February 24, 2007, and is sure to heat up a Winnipeg winter. After all, what else will you be doing in February in Winnipeg ? Show off your knowledge of Winnipeg , your teamwork and your ability to work out our transit system, while at the same time raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
The Great Chase features teams of four navigating their way through the city beginning at a central starting location and using the Winnipeg transit system. Teams will be given transit schedules and a prescribed first destination (check point) that they must get to, using the transit system. At each check point the team will be given a list of questions to answer about the location and their next check point, concluding at the original starting point approximately five hours later. Team times will be calculated based on the time to properly complete the prescribed course plus or minus penalties or credits as assigned by event organizers based on the rules of participation. The name of the game, of course, is to be the team with not only the best time, but the team who can answer the most questions about the locations they find themselves in. There are also credits given for best team names, best team costumes, as well as most money raised for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Each team of four is considered registered for the event only when registration participation form is fully complete including all registration fees and waivers signed by all team participants. Each participating team must pre-select a team category. Each participating team must participate in the event pledge program to raise a minimum of $1000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. There will be no refunds issued for registration or pledges regardless of cause.
At least two team members must be 18 years of age or older to participate. Proof of age may be required. Team members under the age of 18 will require parental or legal guardian consent. No one under the age of 14 years of age will be allowed to participate.
Checkpoints are located in safe, well-lit public venues. All checkpoints are staffed throughout the duration of the race. Teams must choose the best way to navigate the public transit system with judgment taken in selecting safe and efficient routes.
